Price a listing without leaving it

Open any car advert, click the icon, and get the same valuation the site gives you — against every comparable advert on the market.

Why not just paste the link?

Usually you can, and the extension adds nothing. Autotrader, Gumtree, CarGurus, dealer sites and — since we started routing those reads through a residential connection — Facebook Marketplace all work from a pasted link.

What the extension still does better is anything only youcan see: a listing posted in a members-only group, or one you’re signed in to reach. Our servers get a sign-in form for those, and your browser gets the real page. It also costs nothing per lookup and skips the round trip, so it’s quicker if you price a lot of cars.

  1. 1

    Download the folder

Grab the extensionfolder from the repository and put it somewhere you won’t delete — Chrome loads it from where it sits.

  2. 2

    Open chrome://extensions

Paste chrome://extensions into the address bar. Links to it don’t work, by design.

  3. 3

    Turn on Developer mode

The switch is in the top right.

  4. 4

    Load unpacked

Click Load unpackedand choose the folder. Pin the icon to your toolbar so it’s one click away.

What it can see

It reads a page only when you click it, and holds no standing access to any site — there’s nothing of it running on a listing until you ask. The one thing it does automatically is tell this site it’s installed, so we stop suggesting it.

The page text goes to the valuation endpoint and comes back as a number. Nothing is stored.

On a phone? Just paste the link — Chrome on Android has no extensions, and most Marketplace browsing happens in Facebook’s own app, so the share link is the quickest route there. A screenshot still works if the link won’t.
