What you’re buying, plainly

The report
A Cert report checks one vehicle, identified by its number plate: the write-off, theft and scrap record from the insurance industry register, the MOT and mileage history from the DVSA, and our fair-value verdict on the asking price. The report is a snapshot of what those sources said at the moment it was issued, and it stays on your account permanently — buying it once means reading it forever.
Price and payment
Your first report is free. After that, each report is £7.99, paid by card through Stripe. Your card details go to Stripe, not to us — we never see them. Payment and issuing are two steps: if the checks fail after you’ve paid, your purchase is kept as a credit and the next attempt uses it. You are never charged twice for one report.
Refunds
If you paid and never received a report — the checks failed and you don’t want to retry, or anything else went wrong — email support@certmotors.com and we’ll refund you in full, no questions. A report that was issued and delivered is generally not refundable, because the paid data pull it contains cannot be un-bought — but if you think something in yours is wrong, write to us anyway and we’ll put it right or refund it.
What the report is not
The report carries no insurance-backed data guarantee. If you want an indemnified check, Autotrader sells one for £5.95 and we’d rather tell you that than pretend ours is something it isn’t — what ours tells you, and theirs doesn’t, is whether the price is right. Fair values are statistical estimates fitted on live asking prices, not valuations of an individual car’s condition. Always inspect a vehicle before buying it.
The boring but true part
Reports are for personal use in deciding on a vehicle, not for resale or bulk querying. Vehicle data comes from third-party sources that are occasionally wrong or late; we pass on what they say in good faith. These terms and any dispute under them are governed by the law of England and Wales. Our privacy policy is here.
