The report
Check a car before you buy
Every check on the market tells you whether the car is hiding something. Ours also answers the question you actually came with: is the price right?
What’s in it
The record
Write-off, theft and scrap markers from the insurance industry's register — the things a seller doesn't volunteer.
The mileage story
The full MOT history read for what it implies: annual rate, gaps, and any reading that goes backwards. A tampered odometer shows up as arithmetic.
The price verdict
Where this exact car sits against a fair-value curve fitted on comparable live adverts — what you should pay, not just what they're asking.
How it works
- Find the car — paste any listing link, or pick one from the deals board.
- We identify it — usually reading the number plate straight off the advert's photos.
- Your report is ready in about a minute, and stays on your account for good.

Questions, answered straight
- What does the check show?
- Three things: the write-off, theft and scrap record from the insurance industry's register; the MOT and mileage history from the DVSA, read for inconsistencies rather than just listed; and our fair-value verdict on the asking price, fitted on live market data.
- Do I need the car's number plate?
- Usually not. For listings we track, we read the plate off the advert's own photographs first and only ask you to type it in when that fails.
- How much does it cost?
- Your first report is free with an account. After that each report is £7.99, paid by card through Stripe. The report stays on your account permanently.
- Is the data guaranteed?
- No — our report carries no insurance-backed guarantee. If you want an indemnified check, Autotrader sells one for £5.95 and we'd rather point you at it than pretend. What ours tells you, and a guaranteed check doesn't, is whether the price is right.
- Will it tell me if the price is fair?
- Yes — that's the point of it. Every report includes the car's position against a fair-value curve fitted on comparable live adverts, so you know what the market says before you make an offer.
